The GENEX ICC™ Ultimate index for Jerseys is designed to build cows that deliver value over time – not just in a single lactation. It’s about creating cows that produce efficiently, breed back reliably and remain in the herd where they belong.
The GENEX ICC™ Ultimate index for Jerseys is designed to build cows that deliver value over time – not just in a single lactation. It’s about creating cows that produce efficiently, breed back reliably and remain in the herd where they belong.
Every ICC index follows the same core philosophy: creating cows that generate real lifetime value through balanced genetic progress. For Jersey dairies, that means aligning component production with the fertility, health and longevity traits that keep cows in the herd and performing over time.
The ICC index was developed with input from progressive producers who wanted a more practical way to select for long-term herd performance. The ICC Ultimate index for Jerseys applies that approach to the traits that matter most – component production, udder health, female fertility and functional longevity – all working together to support consistent performance across multiple lactations.
The ICC Ultimate index brings together the traits that matter most and balances them to drive lifetime value.
Fat | Protein | Milk
Strong fat and protein production, supported by the right level of milk, to maximize value in component-based markets. The emphasis is on lifetime component yield to deliver consistent revenue across multiple lactations.
Productive Life | Somatic Cell Score | Udder Traits | Heifer Livability | Early First Calving
Cows that stay in the herd longer, with fewer health challenges and more productive lactations. Lower SCC and correct udder structure to support milk quality and reduce the treatment costs that quietly erode profitability. Early first calving shortens the unproductive period and gets cows contributing sooner.
Daughter Pregnancy Rate | Heifer Conception Rate | Cow Conception Rate
Reliable reproduction that keeps your herd moving forward includes more pregnancies, fewer days open and less semen used. Cows that breed back on schedule spend more time in milk and reach later lactations where lifetime value is truly built.
It’s not about pushing one trait to the extreme. It’s about building cows that perform consistently and stay in your herd longer.
Every index reflects a different philosophy about what drives profitability. Here’s how the ICC Ultimate index differs from other industry indexes:
A well-rounded index focused on traits that produce sustainable cow.
Selection on the Jersey Performance Index puts a heavier focus on production and less focus on cow health, longevity and reproduction.
Selection on Cheese Merit puts a greater emphasis on yield but less on cow longevity, livability and female fertility.
