Producer Insights with GENEX Territory Sales Manager Tammy Wallace

Tammy Wallace and family

Our industry continues to face many of the same challenges beef cattle producers have always worked through: higher input costs, unpredictable weather, labor shortages and an increasingly complex marketplace. On top of that, historically low cow numbers across the country mean every replacement female and every breeding decision carries more weight than ever. While these challenges shift from year to year, one thing remains constant: operations that stay committed to long‑term improvement are the ones best positioned for success.

One of the smartest investments you can make is in quality genetics. Strong genetics help build a more productive, efficient and profitable cow herd for years to come. When you combine that with solid management, a willingness to learn and trusted relationships with industry partners, you set your operation up to adapt and thrive.

That’s one of the things I enjoy most about my role at GENEX, helping producers find practical solutions that align with their goals and support the long‑term success of their operations.

Behind the Insights: A Q&A with Tammy

Tell us about yourself.

I grew up in central Iowa on my family’s Red Angus operation, James Red Angus. After Ernie and I married, we founded Wallace Cattle Company. Today, we focus on raising quality Angus and SimAngus cattle that can compete at the state and national level.

Our son, Sam, works alongside us in the day-to-day operation with his wife, Morgan, and their two sons Beau and Huck. Our daughter, Paige, uses her talents in photography and videography to showcase our cattle, living nearby with her husband, Marcus, and two children, Andi and Brooks.

Wallace Cattle Company hosts two online heifer sales each year. Supporting the next generation of cattlemen and women remains one of the most rewarding parts of our operation.

What previous experiences prepared you for this role?

Prior to becoming a Territory Sales Manager, I spent eight years as an Area Beef Representative with GENEX, where I worked closely with beef producers to help improve herd genetics. I’ve now worked for GENEX a total of 21 years.

Who has made the biggest impact on your career and why?

I was fortunate to be hired by Stan Lock, who quickly became much more than my employer. He was a mentor, a trusted friend and someone who had a lasting impact on my career. Stan was always looking for ways to improve artificial insemination (A.I.), and his passion for innovation and excellence inspired everyone around him. I learned so much from his leadership, his vision and his unwavering commitment to making the industry better.

How do you bring value to beef producers?

I have always been passionate about helping producers incorporate A.I. into their operations. Seeing them use A.I. to improve the genetic quality of their herds and add value to every calf crop has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

What goals would you like to accomplish in your current position?

I want to continue growing my territory by earning the trust of more producers while helping existing customers achieve their genetic goals. Building long-term relationships and being a reliable resource are what motivate me every day.

What do you enjoy most about working with beef producers?

What I enjoy most is the relationships. I love being a trusted resource and helping families make decisions that strengthen their herds and support the long-term success of their operations. Every operation is different, and I enjoy finding solutions that fit their goals.
