For decades, GENEX Beef Distributor Chris Larkin of Ottumwa, Iowa, has been a trusted partner to beef producers, known for his dedication to advancing genetic progress and strengthening beef herds across southern Iowa and northern Missouri. His deep industry knowledge, commitment to customer success and multi-generation family legacy have made him a respected leader within the beef cattle industry. His dedication and drive to help producers succeed makes GENEX proud to recognize Chris as the 2025 GENEX Beef Distributor of the Year.
A Family Legacy in the A.I. Industry
A Multi-Generation Commitment to Beef Genetics
Artificial insemination has always been more than a business for Chris – it’s been a family tradition. His father, Pat Larkin, founded their semen sales and arm service business in the early 1980s, and Chris joined him soon after.
That legacy expanded even further in 2010 when Chris’ sons, and now their families, entered the business. Today, the Larkin family proudly represents multiple generations committed to supporting cattle producers and advancing genetics for the beef industry.
A Work Ethic that Sets the Standard
Built on Long Hours, Dedication and Producer Support
Chris is widely recognized for his unmatched work ethic and willingness to put in long hours to help customers achieve their goals. Year after year, his commitment to doing right by producers has placed him in the top GENEX distributors in semen sales, a testament to his consistency, dedication and deep understanding of the industry.
While Chris is a leader in many ways, he’s quick to highlight the team behind his success. He credits a talented and committed group that works alongside him to deliver exceptional service and results.
Deep Knowledge That Drives Producer Success
Expert Guidance in Beef Genetics and Herd Management
Producers rely on Chris not only for access to top beef genetics but for the real-world insight he brings to each operation. His expertise spans cow/calf management, stockmanship, sire selection and genetic planning, allowing him to provide meaningful recommendations that strengthen herd performance.
Chris is especially known for his follow-through. When results fall short of expectations, he works closely with producers to identify root causes and map out practical improvements for future breeding seasons. His approach is collaborative, constructive and rooted in helping customers succeed long-term.
Putting Producers First
A Customer-Driven Approach to Beef Reproduction Programs
Selfless, dependable and customer-driven, Chris approaches every day with producers in mind.
“He is the kind of distributor who consistently goes the extra mile – whether that means long days on the road, solving problems in the field or ensuring every detail is right before the job is done,” states GENEX Territory Sales Manager Cody Korthaus. “His dedication to doing what’s best for cattle producers is exactly why he is so deserving of this year’s honor.”
